Cloth Diaper Service
With the huge boom in green thinking, acting and business, cloth diapers are making a big comeback. Young parents are seriously considering all the environmental impacts of each decision related to having a child. More and more, they are arriving at the decision that cloth diapers are not only better for the environment but are also better for their bank account. Add in that studies that show that cloth diapers mean less diaper rash, easier and sooner potty training, and you’ll have parents clamoring to your cloth diaper cleaning service.
Cloth diaper services collect dirty diapers, launder them, and return clean diapers to the homes. Generally, the families provide their own cloth diaper over-pants since there are so many types available. You’ll need to buy a huge supply of cloth diapers - estimate about 100 for each person you intend to serve. There are two roads available when it comes to the actual cleaning: you can partner with an industrial launderer or purchase an industrial washer and launder them yourself. The first will be easier if you don’t have lots of startup capital available. The second will mean more profits to you, but may also require special training to ensure the diapers are cleaned correctly.
Then you just need a truck or van to pick up the dirty diapers and leave a stash of clean ones behind. Set up delivery routes so you are visiting each area once a week and serving lots of houses in that area. Because kids eventually grow out of diapers, you will need to make sure you have a steady stream of new customers. Try advertising in all the new-parent places: OB/GYN offices, parenting and birthing classes, doulas, midwives, baby stores, and even hospitals (some will let you demonstrate in a birthing class or leave materials for their delivery “goodie bags”). There are franchise opportunities available as well that you can become involved with.
In your advertising materials, play up the “green” angle, the money saving potential and the convenience of using cloth diapers and a cloth diaper service. Remember new parents are most concerned with cost, the care and health of their new baby, and anything that can save them time, so you’ll need to hit all three of those key points in everything that you do!
