Home Organization and Clutter Control

This is a hot new industry that has a lot of potential! If you have a logical approach to organization and think you can help other people get their clutter under control, you could launch a successful home business as a home organizer. You can run your business from your home, set your own days and hours that you will work, and work alone or with a friend or employee.

Because people’s lives are so busy, they don’t have time to spend getting their “stuff” organized. It becomes a burden to find items, and soon enough they end up with junk rooms that they are too overwhelmed to even start organizing. That’s where you come into the picture. You can help them sort through the items they have, and then create an attractive, simple method to categorize items so they are easy to find when needed.

You can help people organize almost anything!

  • Basements
  • Garages
  • Paperwork
  • Photographs
  • Children’s clothes and keepsakes
  • Kitchens and pantries
  • Closets
  • Hobby materials

You’ll need the ability and knowledge to bid a project once you get a look at just how much clutter the client needs help with. Before you begin, gather catalogs or surf the Internet so you know estimated prices of common organizational systems. Create a clipbook of shelving styles, filing systems, bin sorters, cabinets and hook styles. You can use these to show the client potential tools so you can get a better idea of their preferred decorating style. You may be able to provide ongoing organizational support, where you visit with clients once a month to ensure their systems are still working for them and make adjustments if needed. At the very least, build a few hours into the bid so you have time to show the client how easy it is to maintain the organizational system you have established for them.

When advertising this service, focus on the time and money saving benefits of having an organized home. Your clients will identify with needing more time and money in the long run! You’ll need a few thousand dollars to create a logo, business cards, ads, and perhaps a website. Tools needed will be tape measures, notepads or graph paper notebooks to sketch out possible solutions, and some sample organizational methods.
