House Cleaning Business
Of all the things on people’s to-do lists, one thing that is always there is cleaning. Working parents don’t have time to keep everything clean and sanitary for their little ones, and elderly people may not be able to move around well enough to deep clean the floors, kitchen and bathrooms. You can help and ensure an steady income for yourself by doing the cleaning for them.
House cleaning is a tried and true home based business because it takes minimal training, easy to find equipment, and has a customer base that’s easy to reach and serve. To make your services truly appealing to more people, include green cleaning - using all-natural products and avoiding all chemicals. Green cleaning is most popular with parents of newborns who like to have a whole-house cleaning with child-safe cleansers before the baby arrives home from the hospital.
Announce your services by spreading fliers around your town in the grocery store bulletin boards, at new parent groups, in the school newsletter if you are allowed, and in the newspaper. You can start with something as simple as a classified ad in the major newspaper. Check around with other established cleaning services to see what they are charging and offer something similar. Most services offer discounts for buying weekly or monthly plans. For each room cleaned or service provided, you can add to the package price.
You will need to provide your own cleansers and equipment so you are familiar with the tools you use. Bring your own vacuum, gloves, buckets, cleansers, dusters and rags. You’ll be a one-man cleaning team until you decide to hire others, so you should be comfortable working alone. You do get to set your own hours though, so you can choose to start your day early and enjoy your evenings, or work late (even second shift if you are keeping your full-time job while you get established) to cater to those who work full-time as well.
There are a lot of companies that offer cleaning franchises, which may be helpful in using an established brand but also means you will be using some of your profits to pay for the right to use that brand name. Many of the franchises also only cater to corporate customers, cleaning office buildings or public buildings. For residential cleaning franchises, check out Molly Maid, Maid Brigade, The Cleaning Authority, and The Maids International as starting points.
