Tree Service
Tree services are essential in times of high winds and storms, but there is also money to be made year round by offering a series of services:
- Tree trimming
- Tree removal
- Stump grinding or removal
- Arbor assessments
- Branch removal
- Emergency services
This business is great if you love working outside, but it does require a pretty hefty investment. You’ll need everything from chainsaws to backhoes plus the trucks and trailers to haul them. You’ll be able to make your money back quickly though because tree services charge anywhere from $150 to $500 to remove a single tree. If there are any special instructions or considerations (like a tree that’s really close to a building or if the owners want the wood chopped for firewood), you can raise that price by another 20% or more.
Tree services will have the most demand after a storm. Wind damage will mean your phone will be ringing off the hook with branch removal and mulching, as well as emergency limb removal for the power company. The more and faster you can handle the calls, the more money you’ll haveĀ its the way into your hands. After the storm has passed, you may still get calls for tree inspection.
This business will also require some special training so you can identify problem trees without having to do a core sample. Really good arborists can tell a diseased tree just by looking at it. You’ll also need some special training and practice to know how a tree will fall when it is cut in different ways. The better you can predict how it will fall, the better you can drop the tree safely. You may be able to partner with a local arboretum or college for classes to learn these and other skills you’ll need to open your own tree service.
